
Uganda landslide: Death Toll Rises To 43, Relocation Begins
According to the Ugandan government, the death toll from a landslide which occurred last week has risen up to 43, with displaced residents deemed mostly at risk scheduled for immediate resettlement.
Heavy downpour unleashed a severe flood, down Mount Elgon near the country’s border with Kenya on October 12, 2018, uprooting trees, pulverising homes and burying residents in Bukalasi town and neighbouring villages. Landslides have become a frequent occurrence in mountainous parts of the East Africa of recent, due to expanding settlement and cultivation that have denuded mountainsides of forest cover and other vegetation.
