Troops Heighten Security in Ebonyi State over 2019 General Elections
Army sources on Sunday 20th January revealed that troops have been patrolling flash-points in Ebonyi state, following credible security updates of potential politically underlying violence subsequent to the upcoming elections in the state. Further, there are reportedly increased security checks and activities in the state, particularly at identified flash-points, as joint groups have supposedly conducted massive patrols. Towns such as Afikpo, Ekpoamaka, Enugu road, Ikwo junction, Presco Roundabout, etc, have been identified as major flash points subject to these security checks.
The Director of Public Relations in the state further mentioned that the increased security activities were in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff, and also, to maintain a “conducive environment for socio-economic and political activities…” by preventing potential crisis resulting from every stage of pre and post 2019 general elections, long before they occur. Further, he noted that there had been no reported cases of violence or uproar in the case, which he credited to the leadership and security agencies in the state.
