Nigerian Customs, Hoodlums Clash in Ogun community, Leave one Dead

A clash in the Owode Yewa area of Ogun state on Tuesday, 22 January reportedly left one dead, many injured and vehicles destroyed, as hoodlums tried to resist raid and search attempts for smuggled items by security operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service in the area, resulting in exchange in fire between the two parties.

According to the Ogun state Command PRO, the security personnel had seized action and withdrew from the scene by Tuesday night, but were blocked and attacked by the hoodlums. Further, the hoodlums sought to gain access into the customs office for further confrontation by battling law enforcement agents in the area. The PRO claimed that as a result of activities of suspected smugglers, an officer was hacked to death earlier in January. He further commended the efforts of security agencies who had increased safety precaution in the area, through sensitization against smuggling
