Gabon Coup: Buhari Asks Soldiers Harboring Political ambitions to Resign
In reaction to the failed coup in Gabon, the Nigerian President on Tuesday 8th January, urged soldiers nurturing political ambitions to resign or stick to their duties of national servitude in the protection of the country’s territorial integrity, noting that democracy which is the most confident guarantee of peace and stability in governance had come to stay, rendering the military coup era defunct.
The Nigerian leader, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, further charged the Gabonese people to linger on the side of peace, security, stability and democracy in their country.
Meanwhile, two rebellious soldiers were killed just outside the Gabonese national radio station by security agents, arresting their leader and freeing hostage journalists in its Libreville capital.
