The newly acting Inspector General of Police reportedly called on Monday 21^st January, for the disbandment of the Federal SARS, Special Investigation Panel and Special Tactical Squad. He announced this at his inaugural conference held in Abuja with Commissioners of Police and Senior Officers.

Subsequent to the new directive, each 36 states of the federation would own a Special Anti-Robbery squad which would be subject to direct supervision from the commissioner of Police, unlike the former centralized operation of the SARS into Federal SARS by the previous IGP.
