El Zakzaky: Presidency Reveals Reason for Continued Detainment of Shiite Leader
As opposed to a held belief that His Excellency had refused an order to release El Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN) based on more personal grounds, the Presidency, through its Media Adviser, Femi Adesina, on Wednesday 24th of July allegedly disclosed reasons behind the continued detention of the Leader of the IMN against a previous court release order.
In the statement released by Mr. Adesina, the case was still being appealed in court, and had thus been inconclusive. In his words, “I know that the immediate past AGF in whose purview it was to make pronouncements on that, addressed the issue. If bail is granted and another case subsists, and there is an immediate filing of an appeal, you have to wait till it is dispensed with. So, that is a legal matter which is outside my purview, but as a layman, an unlearned man as lawyers would call us, we know that until all cases are dispensed with, you don’t say that they have been concluded.”
Conclusively, he bid the Shiite protesters to exercise some patience until the court had made a ruling.
