
Buhari Introduces New Nigerian Passport with 10 Years Validity
There has been the introduction of a new national passport with a 10 year validity period by His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, 15th January to enhance security. The luncheon was performed at a Federal Executive Council (FEC) ceremonial meeting held at the presidential villa, Abuja, after which the President was reportedly issued a copy of his own by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The comptroller alleged that the new features of the passport would make it easier for security management in the country by bringing discipline to the system.
The new passport with 32 pages would reportedly cost N25, 000 (thousand) and $130 abroad; the 64 page passport with five years expiration would supposedly cost N35, 000 and $150 abroad, while thee 64 pages with 10 years validity would cost N70, 000 in Nigeria and $230 abroad. The new passport is reportedly weather- friendly and slow to damage.
