Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has emerged the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election. Atiku defeated 11 other candidates in a keenly contested election held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuawal came a distant second in the primary election.

Atiku Abubakar will contest against incumbent President Buhari, who won the ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
