Boko Haram Strike in Military Base, IDP Camp in Borno, Kill 7
Radical Islamic sect Boko Haram attacked a military base in Rann, Borno state on Tuesday, 14th January,, setting fire to sheds and rendering most homeless, sources reported. The attack is reportedly followed by a similar attempt by ISWAP to overrun a military base in Maiduguri on Monday, 13th January. The attack supposedly began on the said Monday. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Rann currently hosts about 35,000 internally displaced people (IDPs).
According to military sources, the terrorist group took charge of a military position in Rann, following profound resistance from the soldiers. However, owing to the poor visibility caused by poor weather conditions, deployment of jets and troops were gravely hampered and eventually stopped. These attacks question the claims of government to have eliminated ISWAP, following incessant destruction and displacement of camps and over 30, 000 persons dwelling in them.
