The long-standing frosty relationship between former President Olusegun  Obasanjo, and his former deputy,  Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has ended, with Obasanjo declaring that he had forgiven him and endorsed him for the 2019 presidential election. Former President Obasanjo made this declaration after a closed-door meeting with Atiku. Atiku is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having emerged as the winner at the presidential primary held last Sunday in Port Harcourt.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) while reacting to the endorsement of Atiku Abubakar by Obasanjo said it will not in any way affect the fortunes of the party in the 2019 Presidential election. According to a National Vice Chairman of the party, Utufam Hilliard Eta, the former President has lost political value saying his endorsement has no effect. Eta stated the endorsement is not a threat to his party claiming Obasanjo will be demystified.
